Pittman Law Office Newsflash

Did you know there are 5 major documents that every adult should have?

There are a lot of documents out there that will help guide you when thinking about your estate plan. However, there are 5 major documents that you should include in your estate plan. States vary in what they require and how they title these documents, so be sure that your documents are legal in the state where you reside.

So what are the 5 major documents?
1) Designation of Health Care Surrogate
2) Living Will
3) Authorization of Release of Health Information (HIPAA)
4) Durable Power of Attorney (Finances)
5) Revocable Living Trust and/or Last Will and Testament

Once you have these documents in place, it is important to tell your loved ones that you have these documents and where to find them. If something happens to you medically, you want to make sure that your loved one can find the documents he or she needs to help you and communicate your wishes to the medical providers.

If you put the documents in a safe or safe deposit box, make sure your loved one can gain access to that safe or safe deposit box.
