Newsflash

I hope you are all having a safe, relaxing summer and that you have been able to visit with friends and family.

Tip – Be Happy!!

Take advantage of the proven benefits of optimism by incorporating positivism into your estate planning which may increase your well-being and that of your children and/or beneficiaries. Positive thinking can be learned by engaging in positive self-talk and through enjoying a healthy lifestyle.

Being happy boosts the immune system. According to the Mayo Clinic, happy people exposed to illness are less likely to become sick and have been found to experience milder symptoms. It’s in Declaration of Independence, our right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Happy individuals have an increased life span, lower rates of depression, better cardiovascular health, lower levels of distress, and more resistance to illnesses.

As to estate planning-happy people are more likely to establish clear life goals and to set methods to reach those goals and belief that those goals will become a reality. Positive people are more likely to plow through when temporary set-backs occur, are more resilient and able to handle unfortunate events and likely to frame set-backs as life learning experiences. Become more deliberative in passing assets onto beneficiaries; as an example by setting aside money for meaningful activities or volunteer activities, instead of just providing a method for your beneficiaries to buy more stuff. Now more than ever this is something you can control.

We enjoyed our first time in Vero Beach. My kids still don’t care to be at the beach for long but they are getting better if we keep them entertained and fed.

The summer has flown by. I can’t believe that Elle will be going into 2nd grade and Reed will be starting PreK 3 in a few weeks.

What my neighbor said

Most neighbors have good intentions when they give you advice. However we always recommend to speak to a professional before acting on that advice. Here are a few examples of what we hear from clients:

My neighbor said to take my deceased spouse’s name off our checking account. I do not recommend that you do so until speaking with me or your banker.

My neighbor said to cancel my deceased spouse’s credit card. I recommend speaking to me before contacting the credit card company so we can discuss your individual situation.

My neighbor said to add my child’s name to my bank account. I do not recommend that you add a child to any of your assets as an owner.

Of course, if your neighbor says you must see Amy Pittman, then I agree with that advice. 🙂
