June 15th is Elder Abuse Awareness Day and your friends at Pittman Law Office invite you to join us in spreading the word about the seriousness and negative impact of elder abuse. According to the National Council on Aging, there are up to five million Americans 60+ who are abused each year. In fact, approximately one in 10 older Americans have been subject to some form of abuse. This can include physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, financial abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment.

If you suspect a friend, family member, or acquaintance may be subject to elder abuse, please speak up! If the person is in imminent danger, call 911. If the person’s life is not in danger, you can make a confidential call to the Florida Department of Children and Families – Adult Protective Services at 1-800-96-ABUSE / 1-800-962-2873. No form of abuse is OK, and we all have a responsibility of recognizing the signs and reporting it if we believe someone we know or come in contact with could be being abused.
