Do you really have everything in order when you pass away?

One of the main reasons our clients come to us is to make it as easy as possible on their loved ones when they pass away. Here at Pittman Law Office, we can establish a solid Estate Plan that is a crucial step in making it as easy as possible on your loved ones if you become incapacitated or when you pass away. However, there are other things that you can do to help them when the time comes for someone to step in to handle your affairs. When the person you named in your estate planning documents agrees to serve as the Agent under your Durable Power of Attorney, Personal Representative or Trustee, they are accepting the responsibilities and duties of a fiduciary. Depending on the type of Estate Plan you have, the responsible party is accountable to the Court and your beneficiaries. In order to make it as easy as possible for your Fiduciary, start thinking about what type of information they will need to know if you become incapacitated or when you die. Have a list of essential information such as burial instructions, list of assets, detailed explanation of expenses as well as where to locate your passwords to online accounts.

For more information and resources on how to make it as easy as possible for your Fiduciary, check out our YouTube Channel and our Client Education Center on our Website.

Probate Corner

To a lot of people, the word ‘probate’ is a bad word. They have heard horror stories about the process and the cost of probate. The probate process is different in every state and sometimes it will vary from one county to another. Pittman Law Office is here to help those who have to deal with the probate process or a trust administration.

If you are a current client of Pittman Law Office and your spouse dies, it is recommended that you contact our office soon after the death to speak with Tara Dirato, our Probate Paralegal. Tara will answer your questions and let you know if there is anything that needs to be done.
